UPDATE ON CLASSES

Indoor classes are not currently taking place, although I may consider holding them again soon. See below for plein air classes.

I recently did an online (by email) Impressionist Figure Painting Class (similar to the Impressionist Portraits class listed below).  I can offer this again anytime.  It is given in 6 short lessons and costs $90.  Contact me if interested and I can send you detailed information.  Timing is much more flexible if you are working from home.

Note about classes:

If you are interested in any class not currently being offered, please contact me and I will try to set up a class.

Watercolor from Scratch

Yes, you can paint! This class is designed for people entirely new to art or to watercolor as a medium. It will be a fun approach for those who just want to give it a try but will give a solid foundation for those who want to continue painting.

In this class you will learn basic techniques for using watercolor, how to paint freely and how to approach a painting.  You will come away with one finished painting.

$100 + materials (contact me for materials list)

4 weeks, 2 1/2 hours a session

Not currently scheduled.  Contact me if interested.

Watercolor: Let’s Keep Painting

This class is a continuation for students who took Watercolor from Scratch or for other students who have learned basic watercolor techniques. The class deals with general painting principles, while at the same time giving the student a chance to improve technique. We will cover such topics as composition, edges, depth, and light and shadows.

Portrait Painting in Watercolor

Learn how to paint compelling portraits, including faces and figures, from photos.  We will start with very quick, loose sketching in both pencil and paint, progress to mini-portraits, then work on larger figures and faces.  Both direct painting and glazing will be used.  Some watercolor experience necessary.

$125 + materials (contact me for suggested materials)

5 sessions, 2 1/2 hours a session

Impressionistic Portraits in Watercolor

Take your watercolor portraits to the next level in this 2-session workshop.  We will concentrate on being loose and impressionistic in our approach, resulting in a lively and integrated portrayal of the subject.  Emphasis will be on strokes, shapes, color and lighting.  Starting with a careful drawing of the subject will allow us to be loose when painting but still result in a realistic portrait.  Some watercolor portrait experience required.

2 sessions, 3 hours each, $70

not currently scheduled; contact me if interested

Painting Dynamic Skies in Watercolor

Would you like to paint loose, exciting, skies? In this one-day workshop we will cover numerous techniques for painting skies, including clear skies, subtle cloudy skies and dynamic stormy skies. We will work on different types of sky washes, learn about the color of skies, and practice painting clouds. After exploring different techniques for handling the subject, there will be time to work on a painting.
